Cosplay Convention Code of Conduct
Welcome to CosCon! We’re thrilled to have you join us for a celebration of creativity, passion, and fandom. To ensure that everyone has a fantastic experience, we ask that you adhere to the following code of conduct and ethics:
As this is and will be an ever changing and growning convention, so will be this code of conduct. We reserve the right to review and change/update the code of conduct from year to year based on experiences at our convention or as participants have reported from other like conventions. As always, we do this for your safety and security.
- Respect and Consent: Cosplay is not consent. Always ask for permission before taking a photo or engaging with cosplayers. Respect personal boundaries and be mindful of others’ comfort levels. No means no, and any form of harassment, unwelcome advances, or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated, and you will be escorted off the premises with no refund.
- Inclusivity: CosCon welcomes fans of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities. Discrimination, hate speech, or any form of intolerance will not be tolerated. Let’s celebrate diversity and create a welcoming environment for all attendees.
- Cosplay Guidelines: While we encourage creative expression through cosplay, please ensure that your costume is appropriate for a family-friendly event. Avoid overly revealing or offensive attire (this includes the inappropriate showing of body parts in a fashion not befitting a family friendly environment or use of printed words on costumes construed as vulgar or overly used profanity in regards to your costume – you may be asked to change your costume or leave the event). Props and weapons must comply with our safety regulations and be handled responsibly at all times. Any realistic swords (metal) must be sheathed and “peace-tied” (zip tied shut). We do not permit real firearms or weapons akin to firearms (real crossbows, or actual metal tipped arrows). Any and all prop firearms must also be zip-tied with the trigger(s) in the fully pulled back position.
- Safety First: Be mindful of your surroundings and prioritize the safety of yourself and others. Report any concerns or emergencies to event staff immediately. Follow all venue rules and regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. Please be cognizant of your environment when performing for cameras or others.
- Hygiene and Cleanliness: Maintain personal hygiene throughout the event. Keep cosplay props and costumes clean and free from any substances that could cause harm or discomfort to others. Dispose of trash and waste responsibly.
- Be Kind and Courteous: Treat fellow attendees, staff, and guests with kindness and respect. Remember that we’re all here to share our love for cosplay and fandom. Let’s make this event memorable for all the right reasons.
- Ask for Help: If you witness or experience any form of harassment, misconduct, or safety concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to event staff or security. We’re here to support you and ensure that everyone feels safe and valued.
- Venue Rules: The historic Grafton School is a drug and smoke-free building. This includes vape, chew, e-cigarettes and snuff. No alcohol is permitted in the building. Any smoking, vaping, chew, or e-cigarette use is only allowed outside of the building.
By participating in CosCon, you agree to abide by this code of conduct and contribute to a positive and inclusive experience for all attendees. Let’s come together to celebrate our shared passions and create lasting memories.
Thank you for your cooperation, and have an amazing time at CosCon!
